  14. I just read P.T.'s address to the trade show in the UK, and it confirmed a
  15. suspicion I've had for a while:

  17. It Sucks to Sell PC's.

  19. Remember when ESCOM bought ol' chicken lips? "Yay!" we cried (at least, some
  20. of us did) "At last! A profitable company that can siphon profit from making
  21. clones into Amiga R&D!"
  22.  
  23. It was poetic justice; the machine we all hate paying for the renewed lease
  24. on life enjoyed by the machine we love.
  25.  
  26. But then Intel released the P60, P75, P90, P120, P133, P166, sequentially, in
  27. the space of 18 months. So the guys that built thousands of P60's three
  28. months later couldn't sell them for the prices they had planned on.
  29.  
  30. So they built thousands of P75s. And it happened again with the P90.
  31.  
  32. And again.
  33.  
  34. And again!
  35.  
  36. Result: tons of inventory being sold at prices below cost, just to dump the
  37. damn things.
  38.  
  39. Mix in a poor X-Mas, and even the big guys (or maybe *especially* the big
  40. guys) take a massive hit.

  42. To quote P.T.

  44. "As you might be aware of, ESCOM is currently facing a quite difficult
  45. financial situation. A bad christmas season and inventory write offs were
  46. the main reasons for this. This situation of course is also directly
  47. affecting Amiga Technologies. The fact is that ESCOM currently does not
  48. have the financial resources needed to support the still ongoing costs of
  49. our operation, especially advertising and research & development."

  51. Yow! From giant to dwarf in 18 months!

  53. Isn't it funny? Intel may be choking the golden goose.
  54.  
  55. Buy Amiga! Our development moves so slowly that you don't go obsolete
  56. overnight! You can make money selling our systems!
